Background and Interests
Chantal received her Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology from HAS University of Applied Science and went on to complete her Master of Science in Biology at Wageningen University and Research. She minored in marine biology and specialised in ecotoxicology. During her Master’s thesis, she worked on researching the effects of the antidepressant fluoxetine and the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole on macroinvertebrate abundance and community composition, with a focus on Gammarus pulex.
Chantal van Drimmelen has been a PhD student in Prof. Heise’s research group since November 2020. She is doing her PhD on the chronic effects of rare earth elements (REE) in a bentho-pelagic food web. The PhD takes place in cooperation with the University of the West of Scotland and HAW Hamburg.
