Background and Interests
Safia El Toum studied biosciences at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main. In her Bachelor’s thesis, she dealt with intraspecific variation of life-history traits towards an invasion limit using the example of Gammarus roeselii in the Lahn River. She also completed her Master’s degree in Ecology and Evolution at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. In her Master’s thesis, she investigated the phenotypic adaptation and intraspecific sensitivity differences of amphipods along stress gradients. She has been a PhD student in the working group since 1 December 2020. In her dissertation, she is working on the sustainable development of estuaries in a changing climate. The doctorate is being carried out in a cooperation between the University of Rostock and HAW Hamburg.
