Robin Westphal trained as a chemical laboratory technician in the toxicology department of the forensic medicine in Kiel. As a result, he developed a keen interest in toxic substances and the associated analytics. In the Laboratory for Supraregional Water and Environmental Analysis in Geesthacht, he deepened his knowledge of environmental analytics. Because of his affinity for the analysis of unknown substances, he subsequently worked at Bayer in the “Analytical Development” department. 

In order to expand his expertise, he took the exam to qualify as a trainer and completed further training to become an industrial foreman in the field of chemistry at the Hameln Technical Academy. Furthermore, he acquired the additional qualifications of environmental & energy auditor at TA Hameln. Since 2018, he has been employed at HAW-Hamburg and supervises the practical courses in inorganic chemistry and instrumental analysis. In 2020, he expanded his area of work and is involved in the development of the inter-university study programmes in industrial engineering. In addition, he is part of the “Applied Aquatic Toxicology” working group, in which he deals with the simultaneous analysis of heavy metals.
